Just put on La Cocina while stealing a minute for myself this weekend, especially after hearing MUBI just acquired it for their catalog.
Below are my first impressions, but I can tell you already - this opening sequence is a great one to do a shot by shot analysis with! I'll structure something for it later this week.
Initial Observations of La Cocina's Opening Sequence
The guy's beautiful words about Times Square not being a circle, and about how life has corners.
Why the black and white?
He made a comment about how you don't see the corners depending upon the angle that you're at. But life is full of corners.
Why the church music as he leads her into the kitchen? Center frame.
What's the music like? What does it remind you of? Close your eyes, just listen to it.
And why are we at a low angle following them?
